Picture of the artist Bertrand Turmel

Bertrand Turmel

Born in 1949, he is always fascinated by the visual representation of all real or imaginary forms. The alleys of Old Quebec are for him memories of inexhaustible childhood. With the years, he develops his own technique to give the illusion of relief to his paintings by the addition of effective eye trunks. He also likes working with the spatula to allow him to increase the strutural density of his subject and to give it a three-dimensional aspect supported by a very personal palette of colors. He painted since about 1973, but it is only since the early 2000s that he lives of his art. Highlight of his career, in 2008 (the year of the 400th anniversary of Québec City), he was the promoter of the Symposium “Plaines Couleurs” in Quebec City, which commemorated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the National Battlefields Commission.
