Normand Hudon
1929-1997
Normand Hudon, born in Montreal in 1929, is a Quebec artist who trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal and the Académie Montmartre in Paris. He met influential figures such as Picasso and Léger during his stay there. Hudon exhibited his work in 1947 at the Salon du Printemps of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and in other galleries in Canada and internationally.
He is also known for his caricatures in the Montreal newspapers La Presse and Le Devoir. His works, influenced by his irreverent gaze, often depict Montreal neighbourhoods and characters. In the late 1970s, he devoted himself fully to oil painting. Thanks to his collaboration with the Balcon d’art, his work has become a pillar of Quebec’s figurative art heritage. Normand Hudon died in 1997, leaving a body of work that is widely recognized and still appreciated.
